Why Independent Fitness?

ON-SITE TRAINING 

Bringing training to older adults where they reside eliminates the need for transportation, which can often be frustrating and unreliable for those who are unable to drive. Your personal trainer will come to you and provide customized exercise programming in your home, while group fitness classes are performed on-site at senior housing facilities and centers utilizing available common space. This means there is no need to worry about about travel time, taking public transportation, traveling in poor weather, or booking a shuttle service. 

TRAINING AT THE RIGHT SPEED FOR YOU

Every client is an individual and needs to exercise at a unique pace. A new fitness program can be fun and exciting, but may also present new challenges and even hesitations. Sometimes patience is required in learning to move your body in a new way while building strength and endurance. This is why it is so important to recognize and celebrate all the milestones, large and small, along the journey and feel like you have the support you need by your side.

​Regular communication and feedback with all clients is a priority for me a trainer. Growing relationships with clients, monitoring progress, and teaching clients to self-monitor encourages confidence in their abilities and bodies.

SOCIAL SUPPORT
Social support is an important factor in starting and sticking with any exercise program. Leading group classes on-site where clients live and socialize provides a built-in social support network of existing friends and potential new friends to share in the clients' exercise journey.

Exercise Programming

AREAS OF FOCUS

It is my goal to provide my clients with an exercise program that maximizes their abilities while being cautious of any limitations. This means exercises are always customized to each client. A combination of conversational interviewing, questionnaires, and assessments will determine which exercises are best to support each client's personal goals and physical health needs.

Always keeping in mind any health limitations, goals, and the latest exercise research on active and functional aging, I try to incorporate the following domains into all clients' programs whenever possible and appropriate. Exercises will be modified according to each client's needs and goals and progressed at an appropriate pace in order to best improve upon and ensure continued functional movement throughout later life.
